About this Project

Hi there, my name is David Weir. By day I'm usually designing pretty pixels for Ludomade here in Los Angeles, but in my spare time I enjoy taking photographs.

This project is an attempt to step out of my comfort zone and into a new level of portrait photography: by taking 100 portraits of people I have never met.

I am in no way a professional photographer, but I hope that this project will help develop my photojournalistic skills further and provide some stories into to the life's of these strangers.

Where can I follow the project?

Feel free to comment, like and share these images so everyone can have there say about how I am going and what they think about the strangers I've met.

Stranger #10 – Aike

Today I took a drive to West Hollywood to explore Ted’s Camera Store and look at some potential wish list items for the future. Just up the road from this was a popular shopping area known as The Grove, along with a huge Farmers Market. This was a good spot to see lots of different people, and this is where I met Aike – my Stranger #10.

I spotted Aike leaning against the wall in the shade on this really hot Saturday, smoking a cigarette and enjoying a coffee. He also was wearing one of those hats that just says ‘creative’ to me, so I approached him and asked for a photo. Without hesitation Aike agreed to the shot and resumed his casual pose as if I wasn’t even there photographing him. He was very relaxed about the whole situation and was very happy to have a chat with me about his career and stories about his journey’s before arriving here in Los Angeles.

Aike is part of a Cardiology research team located closely here to the Grove, and his first line after telling me that was “… and yet I still smoke” with a laugh. He’s originally from Arminia in Russia but has lived in Los Angeles for the last 15yrs and really loves the lifestyle here.

I’m glad he came, otherwise he wouldn’t have got to be a part of this awesome project. Thanks Aike, I hope you enjoy this portrait.
